Weather Caps
Design Shelter weather caps are designed to allow fresh air ventilation through the peak of each shelter. The MH series shelters have one cap and the MLH1935 shelter has two caps. Due to the extra long elongated nature of the MLH1950 shelter it requires 3 ventilation caps.
Hot air is naturally drawn to the shelter peaks and the unique Design Shelter weather cap shape promotes air exhaust and natural fresh air ventilation while at the same time maintaining the weather tight seal of the shelter roof.
The standard weather cap allows the shelter to naturally exhaust stale air through the cap at the peak and includes a layer of bug screen to prevent insects from entering the shelter through this area
Design Shelter’s chimney cap design allows users the flexibility to warm their MH or MLH series shelters with heat created from either a wood burning or fossil fuel burning stove. Each chimney cap is outfitted with a spring loaded conical cap allowing the insertion of up to a 15 cm (6”) diameter stove pipe through the peak. Once the stove pipe is removed, the spring loaded chimney falls back into position once again creating a weather tight condition inside.
Design Shelter weather caps can also be outfitted with a closing damper allowing the user to limit or prohibit air exhaust through the roof peak. This option may be desired when adequate re-circulated air systems are employed especially in severe cold climates.
All Design Shelter weather caps are outfitted with specially designed and stretched offsets to allow easy insertion of the cap through the roof peak cone positions. This allows the cap to be centered easily to ensure a center roof position and to encourage a flush fit position of the cap on top of the roof cone set. Further, retention springs are provided so that the user can secure any weather cap design to the mainframe of the shelter from the inside to prevent any cap loss in high wind conditions.
The fourth option offered is a “blackout” cap. This specially designed cap will not allow any interior light from the shelter to escape but will still promote fresh air ventilation and exhaust of stale air through it.
For those applications where forced air ventilation is required, Design Shelter offers an electric exhaust fan as a retrofit package for all of the above weather cap options. The forced air exhaust fan has been designed to work in conjunction with our electric light and wiring harness set or can be powered by any other single phase AC electrical feed.
